Lasting Impressions: Baya Mahieddine

Being the artist’s first museum retrospective in the region outside of Algeria, it is part of the Lasting Impressions series, held annually at the Sharjah Art Museum.

The aim of the series is to focus on prominent Arab artists who had a prolific career, and left an enduring impact on the development of modern art in the Arab world.

Baya Mahieddine was one of Algeria’s most prolific modernist artists. With a career spanning nearly six decades, she became pivotal to the formation of a distinct North African modernism in the arts.

This catalogue highlight her life and journey, by documenting her exhibition at Sharjah Art Museum.
