Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival

The annual Islamic Arts Festival began in 1998 under the supervision and organisation of the Directorate of Art in the Department of Culture and Information, with the intention of exhibiting various kinds of traditional and contemporary Islamic arts.

Over its consecutive editions, the Festival was able to display different vibrant styles of Islamic Art through a selection of art projects illustrating the authenticity of Islamic Art and its ability to keep up with current artistic changes.

The Festival is one of the most renowned Islamic Art events in the region, and its events include local and international exhibitions, intellectual programmes, and interactive activities.

Theme of the upcoming edition of Islamic Arts Festival (Prospect)

The prospect is a scope open to infinity. It prompts contemplation and venturing a journey towards visual realms that exist beyond the limits of space. It is admiring a beauty while being blindfolded. It is the practice of imagination that can invoke the absent beautiful and undiscovered realms.

The prospect is also the width, the spaciousness and the reception. It is a vast field of symbolism that manifests itself horizontally in objects and beings, and rises vertically to a distant nebula to materialize into an unrivaled aesthetics.

This theme emphasizes the unlimited artistic inventory that the prospect grants to any artist, not only in terms of spatial significance, but also in its temporal, cultural and historical presence, which bestows an artistic depth on the artworks. Such features are reflected in the Islamic arts with their unlimited prospects.

However, as the artworks have a visual impact, they also enjoy an intellectual and emotional prospect, where the artistic project moves into two different paths: to a visual path that creates astonishment and admiration, and to a path of intellectual and emotional expression open to many possibilities, as if to say that everything is the same and different prospect.

The prospect does not alter or change; it is a constant stimulation of the imagination and a question of the arts that is always raised. If artists were asked about the prospects of their art, they would pause contemplating the process within and around their art.

The prospect is the universe with its vast galaxies, the nature with its aesthetics, and the light with its pleasures. It is, in essence, a vision and a purpose. In the realms of Islamic arts, the artistic values and visual heritage of these arts never fails to represent absolute beauty and prospects.
